Who Can Claim The Insulation Grant
The aim of the Australian Government Insulation Grant is to make Australian homes more energy efficient by reducing the wastage of energy through heating in winter and cooling during summer by insulating lofts and Ceilings.To be eligible to obtain the Loft Insulation Grant the Householder must be:
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident aged 18 years or over.
- The Owner-Occupier or Beneficial Owner of the dwelling where the Ceiling Insulation is to be installed and be an individual who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident aged 18 or over.
- The Landlord of the dwelling where the Ceiling Insulation is to be installed and be:
- an Australian citizen or permanent resident aged 18 years or over; or
- a corporate entity incorporated in Australia; or
- The Tenant of a dwelling owned by a Landlord who has evidence of the Landlord’s permission (letter from the Landlord or Landlord’s agent) to install Ceiling Insulation in that dwelling under the Home Insulation Program and to sign the Work Order Form including giving a release on the Landlord’s behalf.
- Be installing new ceiling insulation – it does not cover the replacement of existing ceiling insulation unless is insufficent. Your insulation installer will need to indicate if existing insulation is 0.5 R value or less in the order.
- Use an Insulation Installer from the Installer Provider Register. To qualify for the rebate, the insulation installation must becompleted by a company on the government’s Installer Provider Register.
- Sign forms and retain documentation upon completion. Once the insulation job is complete, you must sign the Work Order Form and hand back to the installer. You must also keep the quote, tax invoice and a copy of the Work Order Form for five years (in case of Government audit).
Recent Insulation Grant Update - NEWS
From 1 December 2009 obtain two (2) genuinely independent quotes from two businesses on the Installer Provider register in order to qualify for the insulation grant rebate. Other changes to the Insulation Rebate & Grant are:
- Insulation assistance up to a maximum of $1,200 regardless of whether the householder owns or rents the dwelling.
- The Insulation Grant allocated funds have now been capped at $2.45 billion.
The Insulation Grant will not be provided if:
- The insulation has been installed by an installer who is not on the Australian Government’s Installer Provider Register or if the dwelling where the ceiling insulation is to be installed is a new home, a rebuilt home or an extension to an existing home built from 2003 onwards and is covered by the mandatory thermal performance requirements for new housing under the Building Code of Australia
