What is the Government Insulation Grant?
The aim of the Government Grant is to make Australian homes more energy efficient by reducing the wastage of energy through heating in winter and cooling during summer.
Insulation Grant Update: The Free Insulation Grant is now over. The Australian Government stopped the free insulation grant during February of 2010. Dispite what you may see in search engines, it is now finished.
The Australian Government Home Insulation Grants offers ceiling & lofts insulation worth up to $1,200 to the occupiers, landlords and tenants of Australian property. The Australian Government has allocated $3.9 billion dollars towards insulation homes across Australia.
The insulation grant program is aimed at homes that are uninsulated to date, currently utilised little ceiling insulation and were built before the thermal performance requirements under the Building Code of Australia were introduced commencing in 2003.
According to the official Australian Government website, if the total quoted cost of loft or ceiling installation is less than $1,200 there will be no more for the householder to pay. This will be the case for most households, home owners and tenants. If the cost of the insulation is more than $1,200, the householder will ordinarily have to pay the difference or the full amount if turn out be illegible, this often provides a large discount towards insulating a large property.

Insulation Grant Update - NEWS!
The Government insulation program now covers all eligible households and is in effect to 31st December 2011 or until the date when insulation grant funds have been allocated, whichever occurs first. This mean the Australian insulation grant can end without any prior warning!

Safety Message - From the Australian Government
All installers must have have relevant OHS Training. In addition they must have one or more of the following: Trade specific competency; Insulation Specific competency or Prior (insulation) Industry experience. If an installer does not have the above competencies, they MUST be supervised by someone who does have them.
A Government Warning for all who are looking for Insulation:
It is the homeowners responsiblity to ensure that the person or company installing loft or ceiling insulation is registered and meets all requirements of the rebate and grant program. If either the installer or the homeowner is not eligible for the rebate the total cost of the installation will be required to be paid for by the householder as the contract to install is between the installer and the householder and not the government and is not valid for the rebate or grant.
